General instructions:

The most expensive purchase for lighting your dollshouse is the transformer; a 12 volt transformer is standard. To choose the right one, it is necessary to know how many lights there will be in your house. To figure out the amount of lights you start with a cup coffee, or tea, while you sit in front of your empty dollshouse, mentally furnish your house and count the amount of lights. For example a light on the bed sidetable and one on the desk in the study. Please note: count three lights for a 3 arm chandelier. Add 10% to your total because if you find an extra light , a non planned one, in the future you will not have a problem. With this outcome  you have an idea which transformer you need; if in doubt: send us an email with your question.

If you are thinking of lighting more houses or shops in the future, it might be wise to buy a heavier transformer; this will save you money when you get to this point.

Electrifying a dolls house is NOT difficult, if you work carefully, and we hope our website will give you enough information to make a start. Still, we would like to give you one warning: convince yourself that any connection you made will not cause a short circuit. Although most transformers have safeguarding against short circuits, there is always a chance if a short circuit happens, that the wires of your lights will get very hot and melt together, which will cause more short circuits, and the cause will be even more difficult to trace. A short circuit can even start a fire, because of the wallpapering over the tape; unfortunately, a fire in a miniature house is no miniature fire! Therefore, plan the installation carefully, take enough time and work at one floor at the time. Checking your layout on a regular basis with a Cir-Kit test probe will help not to lose track.

Make sure you have the right tools for the type of connection you chose. If you made the choice to solder, use Print solder instead of regular; by doing this you will not need to use soldering fluid. Use a light soldering iron, 10 or 15 Watts will do fine. Special tools to install eye-lets are available from our webshop which you can find on our Dutch pages, or ask your local dolls house shop

Our website will be enlarged on a regular base, to be as helpful as possible. If, at the moment, the answer to your question is not yet on this site, ask it by e-mail here. We would like to start a FAQ page, so don’t hesitate. Have fun lighting your house!
